Child Care and Preschool Programs
- Preschool Programs - Now enrolling infants, toddlers and children (birth to five) for programs beginning in late February 2010. All Educare and Head Start programs provide an emphasis on Kindergarten readiness, highly trained teachers, nutritious meals and snacks, family support services, and much more.
- Child Care - Our resource specialists can assist you in finding child care including before and after school care, non-standard hours, part-time and drop-in care, care for children with special needs and care in multiple languages.
Services for New and Expecting Mothers
- Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program and First Steps- WIC provides supplemental food vouchers and nutrition education and counseling for low income pregnant and parenting women and children up to age 5. First Steps and Enhanced First Steps are Medicaid programs that include education and support services from nurses, nutritionists, social workers and community health workers.
- Nurse Family Partnership - Serving first time, low-income pregnant and parenting women ages 23 and under, Public Health Nurses provide education and intensive support for life goals and parenting during the time before the 28th week of pregnancy through the child's second birthday.
- Home Visiting Services - Offering access to social workers and nutritionists as well as home visits by healthcare professionals during your pregnancy and until your youngest child's second birthday.
- Doula Services - Doulas provide services that support, educate, respect, honor and empower women and their families throughout the childbearing year. As a partner in WCELI, Open Arms provides birth doulas to women having their first babies in the United States. They work closely with the home visiting team at King County Public Health to ensure that women and their families receive the support they need in this critical stage of a child’s life.
- Teen Parenting Program - Offers Head Start quality services to children of teen parents, with reduced class sizes and improved staff child ratios. Teen parents receive family support services and are eligible for WCELI home visiting services that help reinforce relationships with their children, in addition to the removal of barriers that would prevent them from continuing their education.
