Highline Public Schools (HPS), one of the morst diverse districts in Washington, serves more than 17,000 students, including 1,500 students within the borders of WCELI. Highline and WCELI have established a strong partnership for emerging opportunities and joint planning.

WCELI Partner Services
OSPI Preschool-3rd Grade Grant
Two elementary schools have state P-3 Grants, which provide extra funding and support to schools to build a strong continuum of programs involving area preschools. Early learning teachers and providers work closely with elementary school teachers on curricula, kindergarten transition, and other strategies that make the transition from preschool to elementary school more seamless.

WCELI Community Advisory Committee
The Principal of White Center Heights Elementary School serves as co-chair of WCELI’s Community Advisory Committee strengthening the alliance between HPS and WCELI.

Teen Parenting Program
In collaboration with WCELI, HPS will partner with the innovative Teen Parenting Program to offer Head Start quality services to children of teen parents, with reduced class sizes and improved staff child ratios. Teen parents would receive family support services and be eligible for WCELI home visiting services that help reinforce relationships with their children, in addition to the removal of barriers that would prevent them from continuing their educations.

Site Partnerships and Educare Learning Center
The proximity of the new Educare Learning Center to White Center Heights Elementary School supports the collaboration of Educare preschool teachers with elementary school teachers, smoothing transitions at a critical point in children’s educational development. Additionally, HPS has provided vacant space to WCELI for administrative staff.

Joint Outreach & Marketing Opportunities
Highline Public Schools joins WCELI in increasing community understanding of the importance of early learning and other WCELI activities, and is exploring collaborating on outreach positions to connect with underrepresented populations and those who might beneft from WCELI services.
